There is no better way to improve your sailing skills than to compete against other sailors. This hones your skills and enables you to measure your progress as you develop your sailing skills.
As a racer, you want to maximize your boat speed.
Competing encompasses several different aspects of the sport: Starting line tactics, racing course tactics, and Technical Sailing skills.
Even for the weekend sailor or cruiser, racing is a great way to develop correct sailing techniques and build friendships.
These courses include both classroom & on-the-water time and taught by world champion racing instructors.

Beginning Racing Course
Course Description:
This is complete introductory course for the sailor needing a thorough introduction to racing as well as for the racing crew who wants to make the transition to helms person.
Prerequisites:
Candidates for this course should be able to presently day sail a boat with confidence and as a helms person be able to tack, jibe, sail on a designated point of sail and trim the sails appropriately.
This course is also appropriate for those with some racing or crewing experience who do not meet the prerequisites for the Advanced Racing course.

- Helming for speed
- Boat speed & tuning
- Weather & wind shifts
- Tacking & gybing drills
- Spinnaker: Trim, sets & take downs
- Starting approaches
- Start to upwind transition
- Short course racing

Certification:
Upon successful completion you will receive our Sail Dallas Racing 201 Certification.

4 hours Classroom (no written quiz).
30 hours on-the-water.

Spinnaker Sailing Course
Develop spinnaker sailing skills on the J/24.
This seminar prepares you for the skills needed for a poled symmetrical spinnaker.
These are skills beneficial to cruisers and racers alike. Poled spinnakers provide for more versatile sailing.
Prerequisites:
Basic Sailing Knowledge
Course Description:
The course consists of two separate 4-hour classes.
Topics include:
- Points of sail for spinnakers
- Packing
- Hoists (bag, cockpit)
- Dousing
- Gybing
- Troubleshooting
- When not to fly
