The Hinckley Competition 41 "Southern Cross"

Southern Cross
"She looks like she belongs on a postcard"

There is a reason Hinckley has the most revered name in the yachting world. They are pure beauty, both at the dock and underway. When you see a picture of a sailboat on the cover of an elegant book, the chances are pretty good that it's a Hinckley.

The Hinckley Company built only nine Hinckley Competition 41's. "Southern Cross" is one of them. Her keel was laid in 1969 and she has been refurbished in recent years. Her fully-functional wood-burning fireplace is just one example of what sets her apart. Under sail (or at the dock), she is pure grace. Her sleek freeboard, sweeping overhangs, and flag-blue hull will turn any head. Don't be surprised if you see other boats maneuver closer and begin taking pictures. In fact, SAIL magazine specifically identifies the Hinckley Competition 41 as the example of a sailboat that has those distinguishing characteristics that make a sailboat beautiful (October 1998 issue).

"Southern Cross" isn't like any other sailboat in the area. In fact, she's not even in the same ballpark with most. She certainly doesn't have that "Clorox bottle" appearance common to too many sailboats these days. We are proud of her and are confident in claiming she is the most picturesque sailboat in North Texas, perhaps in the whole state.

There are several different ways you can experience "Southern Cross".

Sailing opportunities include:

Group sizes can vary substantially. For intimate settings, we recommend a maximum group size of six. Groups up to twelve are quite comfortable. We have had groups of approximately 20 people.

We usually sail on the Hinckley 41 but sometimes we use the J-24's. In any case, we always have a good time and hope to see you there.

Due to weather, we usually make a GO / NO GO decision by noon of that Wednesday. We highly recommend checking this website after noon to ensure we will be sailing.

Romantic Dinner & Moonlight Cruises

A fantastic & relaxing evening event!

Enjoy an intimate dinner while peacefully floating at anchor. Watch the sunset. Then, sail away under a full moon. This will be an evening you will not soon forget.

Southern Cross will depart the docks at 6:30pm. Hors d'oeuvres will be served underway to a secluded anchorage. You will then be treated to a full sit-down dinner, prepared specifically for you by our gourmet chef.

After dessert and a romantic sunset, Southern Cross will weigh anchor. You will be under sail just before dark. But it will not ever really get dark. Remember ...the full moon. Experience the elegance of a time gone by. Glide across the water in the silence only a sailing vessel can offer. Time will slip by as you soar with the breezes.

Upon returning to the docks, it's important that you settle down, enjoy a coffee, espresso, or glass of Port and swap a few sea stories with your new friends.

This experience is as much about dinner as it is about sailing. It's two in one!

Space is very limited. The chef insists on a group size no larger than six people. Remember, this is a sit-down dinner in a surrounding that is unmatched anywhere in the area. To see what it will look like, just click the "Photos" button on the left of this page.
